Stacia is desperate to rescue Clio, who’s been in love with Pol most of their lives, but the Loyalists see Stacia’s claim to the throne-and supposed hereditary ability to wield a mysterious weapon called the Firebird-as a chance for revenge against the Direktor.

Pol spirits Stacia away to take refuge with the Loyalist resistance, leaving their friend Clio to the mercy of the Direktor. He’s looking for Anya Leonova, the sole surviving member of the imperial family he brutally deposed sixteen years earlier, and he claims that Stacia is the long-lost princess. Stacia’s idyllic life with her family and best friends Clio and Pol comes to an end when the terrifying Direktor of the Galactic Union descends upon her backwater planet.
